Why I Teach EUC

Hey — I'm Raub Roy. In addition to making experimental sound art and immersive performances, I’ve spent years commuting and exploring cities on electric unicycles (EUCs). They're fast, efficient, weirdly elegant, and surprisingly easy to fall in love with.

Since 2020, I’ve been teaching EUC lessons with Alien Rides, and have helped over 100 people get their start on a wheel. I haven’t lost one yet!

This page is for anyone curious about learning to ride. Whether you’re just testing the waters or already planning your first wheel purchase, I offer beginner lessons here in Minneapolis. Scroll down for details — glad you found your way here.

Learn to Ride an Electric Unicycle

$50 for a 1-hour lesson
(If you buy an EUC from Alien Rides, your lesson is free — we’ll credit the $50 toward your purchase!)

What to Expect

We’ll start with a dedicated training unit — the Inmotion V8S. It’s responsive, stable, and a great platform for learning. The skills you build on this beginner wheel will transfer smoothly to any other EUC you decide to ride.

Location

Most lessons take place at Lyndale Farmstead Park in Minneapolis — a quiet, flat area that’s perfect for beginners.
If you're elsewhere in the city, I can sometimes travel to you — just get in touch and we’ll figure it out.

Before You Arrive

  1. Rest up: The first lesson is a workout! Think lots of stair-like step-ups.
  2. Bring water: Hydration helps a ton.
  3. Footwear: High-top skate shoes are ideal (ankle protection + flat soles), but any comfortable closed-toe shoes will work. No sandals.
  4. Safety: A bike helmet is recommended. Bring any other gear that makes you feel more confident.

Most people are riding short distances by the end of the first session, but everyone progresses at their own pace.
